DIY: Oatmeal Cleanser (Ideal for sensitive, acneic, irritated skin) x

I know what you might be thinking, the only place oatmeal should be going in the morning is in your stomach, not on your face, however after reading this you might just change your mind.

I've been cleansing my face with oatmeal for the past two weeks and I'm loving it so much. It's very soothing and calming for the skin, ideal for people who are very sensitive to normal cleansers, or people who are acneic or irritated in some way. If your face is really sensitive and/or broken out, the last thing you want to be doing is overloading it with the harsh chemicals found in normal cleansers, which can make your condition worse. If you think about it, when a child has chicken pox you give him/her an oatmeal bath. So if your facial skin is irritated, why not do the same for it. Oatmeal, which is highly affordable and accessible, is able to help relieve sensitivity and redness, while also providing a very gentle and mild exfoliation. It's also very skin balancing, it leaves the skin feeling cleansed yet moisturized. All you need is oatmeal, nothing else.

How do I use it ? I pour enough oats onto my hand so that my entire palm is covered, clench my hand into a fist and allow some lukewarm water to moisten the oatmeal (I do this over the sink or in the shower) After the oatmeal has been moistened and softened I begin massaging it gently all over my face for about a minute or two. I even go over my eyes ever so gently, that's how gentle the oatmeal is. I then rinse it off completely, and ensure that all bits of oatmeal have been rinsed down the drain (this method can be a bit messy, so I prefer doing it in the shower.) It leaves my skin feeling calm, soft, smooth and balanced.

In the morning I've been using this alone as my cleanser, though at night I do cleanse with a normal cleanser, as oatmeal alone is NOT enough to remove makeup properly. Cleansing with oatmeal has made a difference in my skin, and I've come to really look forward to cleansing with it everyday, I love how smooth and calm my face feels afterwards, there's none of that tightness you sometimes get with normal cleansers. It's lovely to have found such an affordable option, and I'm so happy to be sharing this amazing method of cleansing. Anyone can use oatmeal as a cleanser, but people who are sensitive or broken out will really appreciate how soothing it is. Give it a go and let me know how you get on, I would love to know that I've helped even one person feel better about their skin.
